Captain’s Log 5,610
I am excited! Just three weeks away! Dexter’s final season! When Big Sister Mia first told me about Dexter, the blood spatter forensics expert who is also a vigilante serial killer, I was skeptical. How could that be even remotely okay? She gave me the CD’s and I started watching. And watching. And watching. It is a fascinating trip into the mind of someone who definitely lives by his “code.”
Dex. Gotta love Dex.
The show is so well-written it makes me stupefied. I don’t get stupefied very often, but when I do, it’s always over someone’s talent or skill. Here is a list of people who stupefy me.
Adele
Leif Enger (brilliant novelist whose words make me faint from their beauty)
Elton John
Julie Taymor (created the Lion King for Broadway)
Bill Bryson (travel writer and philosopher)
Carol Burnett
Philip Pullman (young adult novelist)
Haven Kimmel (novelist)
J.K. Rowling
Jason Mraz
William Least Heat Moon
Bonnie Raitt
David Sedaris
Annie Leibovitz
There are more but that’s it for now. I love being surrounded by the energy of creative minds. Being a liberal arts major in college and then working as a musician and songwriter, that became my way of life. So normal for me. Spending hours around a table figuring out the best way to tell a story through music and/or writing. Getting hooked up with the theatre again has given me a huge boost of energy and ideas. At times, I feel almost on fire.
We have another rehearsal tomorrow night and then again on Saturday for most of the day. I look forward to that almost as much as I look forward to my travels. I am so hungry for any type of adventure. Mental or physical.
I am going down to the county offices today to present another grant today. It’s such a gorgeous Art Deco building. I love spending time there.
Pretty pretty
I still have to write my speech, so farewell here. The Confederacy is meeting today to decide the fate of our institution while I spend the morning in this pretty building. Methinks something or someone is about to get thrown under a large bus. And you know what? I’m absolutely fine with that. I have let go of any emotional attachments. I can call anywhere “home.” I am just riding out this particular gale to see what sort of detritus washes ashore.
A puzzle geocache you may enjoy. I’ve not solved it yet. http://coord.info/GC43ART
Hmmmmmmmm
Ah, Dexter. G loved it. I was frightened.
It is really creepy at first. Then it gets intriguing.
I haven’t seem Dexter yet. It’s challenging for me to watch uninterrupted and I would want to focus on it if the writing is that good
Watch late at night.
When you write like this its beautiful. Something has shifted for you so wonderful perhaps all this travel. Its great for perspective!
I am equally impressed with your stupified list
It’s the travel. Must be.
You are not very WPA, but we will support you from here to there and gone.
I am a failure!
Yeah Dexter. Last season.
Will miss him!
I love Dexter too and Sons of Anarchy…and Downton Abbey and YOU!.
I hope the person being thrown under the bus isn’t you but if it is…you can write a little musical about it. I know you can. The title could be YOU CAN’T FIX STUPID…..
I think I am going under the bus too. I could give a flying shit.
Brings to mind a little song……..lol
(and I hardly had to change the words…..)
By En-Vogue ~~~~ NEVER GONNA’ GET IT.
Ooh, STOP!!!,
No, they’re never gonna get it (oww),
Never ever gonna get it (no, not this time),
No, they’re never gonna get it (my work, mmm-mmm),
Never ever gonna get it,
No, they’re never gonna get it (oww),
Never ever gonna get it (not this girl),
No, they’re never gonna get it (my ethics’, mmm),
Never ever gonna get it,
Ooh, STOP….,
I remember how it could have been,
You were never smart or nice — you can’t fool me (ooh, STOP),
Now you’re talkin’ like you made a change,
The more you talk, the more things sound the same (ahh, ahh, ahh, oh),
What makes you think you can just make a change (oh, oh, whoa, oh),
Without a good fight? Oh (ahh, ahh, ahh, oh),
I just sit back and watch you make a fool of yourself (ooh, oh),
‘Cause you’re just wasting your time, oh! (bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum),
No, you’re never gonna get it (not this time),
Never ever gonna get it (my abilities, yeah),
No, you’re never gonna get it (had your chance to make a change),
Never ever gonna get it,
No, you’re never gonna get it (not in my lifetime),
Never ever gonna get it (my skills’),
No, you’re never gonna get it (had your chance to make a change),
Never ever gonna get it,
Ooh, Stop…,
Now you promise me the moon and the stars,
Save your lies, you won’t get very far (ooh, stop),
Gave you many chances to make a change,
The only thing you changed was my willing heart (ahh, ahh, ahh, oh),
It doesn’t matter what you do or what you say (ooh, oh, whoa, oh),
I won’t be staying here,, no way (ahh, ahh, ahh, oh),
Maybe next time you’ll give your director a little respect,
So you won’t be hearing me say, “No way!” (bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum),
No, you’re never gonna get it (not this time),
Never ever gonna get it (my innovation, yeah),
No, you’re never gonna get it (had your chance to make a change),
Never ever gonna get it,
No, you’re never gonna get it (not this time),
Never ever gonna get it (my new ideas),
No, you’re never gonna get it (had your chance to make a change),
Never ever gonna get it (oh),
No, you’re never gonna get it (not this time),
Never ever gonna get it (my great action plans),
No, you’re never gonna get it (had your chance to make a change),
Never ever gonna get it,
No, you’re never gonna get it (not this time),
Never ever gonna get it (my grant writing skills, yeah),
YEAH, YOU’RE NEVER GONNA GET IT…..
I just wet myself!
OH, yes!!!
You love the County Admin building? Really? Hmmm… I guess my appreciation for it is colored by the YEARS and YEARS of very long meetings I had to attend there and the ghastly parking lot. And, of course, some of the people I met there who were self-important, truculent, argumentative, and just plain overall stinky. My fellow board members and I had to fight for every little thing…and were even then dependent upon the whim of the board of supervisors. I’m glad SOMEBODY loves it!
I love the building. Not what goes on inside.
“Truculent” – great word
Fab! So when are you coming to visit, Valerie???????
Have you read Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy? I don’t know anyone who has read it besides me, and I’d like to hear another opinion.
I have not. Going to soon!
